SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Read Jonah 4:1-4. Jonah didn’t want to do what God has asked him to do and he expressed his anger and then asked God to take his life. How dramatic! Has God ever asked you to do something and you felt anger regarding it or questioned His reasoning? What happened? Did you end up doing what He asked in the long run? What was the result? Discuss as a group.
2. Read Micah 6:8. According to this scripture, these are the things that the Lord requires of us. What areas are you most challenged in? Discuss.
3. Read Matthew 5:43-44. We tend, as humans, to love those that are just like us or “easy” to love, but God calls us to love those who are unlovable and those who hurt us. Tell of a time when God used you to love someone who had hurt you and discuss how God ministered to you through it.
4. Psalm 139:23-24. We are often blinded by our own issues and cannot see the things in us that need to change. This scripture tells us to ask God to reveal those things in us. What are some other ways that we can have our hearts challenged to reveal issues that need to change? Discuss.
5. Read Jonah 4:7-11. Jonah once again is having a pity party. It seems he hasn’t learned his lesson. He was focused on his own thoughts, his own pain, his own ideas instead of God’s plan. Discuss a time where you were in the same place and the end result. What caused you to submit to God’s way?
