SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Read Romans 8:11. After reading this passage, is it referring singularly to eternal life? What other things will be given to us through the spirit of God? Discuss.

2. Read Luke 24:13-21. Reflect for a minute on the fact that Cleopus and Mary were discussing all they had seen that Jesus had done on the earth that they had witnessed. Imagine Him jumping in with them all of a sudden on their walk to discuss such things and they don’t even recognize Him. How many times in your own life has Jesus showed up in some way that you didn’t recognize Him or His presence? How can we be more aware of His presence in our lives? Discuss as a group.

3. Read Luke 24:22-24 & John 20:1-10. Discuss what it might have been like to see that Jesus had risen, witnessing first-hand the empty tomb. What would some of your feelings be? Do you think it was easier for those who walked with Him and witnessed His resurrection to choose to walk that same crucified life? Why do we have so much trouble today living that kind of life?

4. Read Luke 24:25-37. So often, we don’t recognize Jesus in our own situations and we need Him to open our eyes. Those who were closest to Him were afraid of Him when their eyes were opened to recognize Him through the breaking of bread. How can we be more sensitive and aware of His presence in our daily lives? How can we have our eyes more “open” to see Him? Discuss.
