It's My Joy To Serve God's People | Pastor Zac Bayless

Day 1: Called to Serve
Reading: Matthew 20:25-28
Devotional: Jesus sets the ultimate example of servanthood, coming "not to be served but to serve." As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate this selfless attitude. Reflect on areas of your life where you might be seeking to be served rather than to serve. How can you shift your perspective to one of joyful service? Remember, serving others is not a burden, but a privilege that allows us to reflect Christ's love to the world. Today, look for an opportunity to serve someone unexpectedly, and as you do, pray that God would cultivate a servant's heart within you.
Day 2: Equipped for God's Purpose
Reading: Ephesians 2:8-10
Devotional: We are God's masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus for good works that He prepared in advance for us to do. This truth is both humbling and empowering. God has not only saved us by grace, but He has also equipped us for a purpose. Take a moment to consider your unique gifts, talents, and experiences. How might God be calling you to use these for His kingdom? Remember, you don't need to have all the answers or feel completely ready – God equips those He calls. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal how you can step out in faith today to fulfill God's purpose for your life.
Day 3: Seeking the Welfare of Our City
Reading: Jeremiah 29:4-7
Devotional: Even in exile, God called His people to seek the welfare of the city where He had sent them. As Christians, we are called to be actively engaged in bringing God's love and light to our communities. Reflect on your attitude towards your city or neighborhood. Do you see it as a mission field, or merely a place you happen to live? Pray for God to give you His heart for your community. Consider one practical step you can take this week to invest in the wellbeing of your city – whether through prayer, service, or building relationships with neighbors.
Day 4: Letting Your Light Shine
Reading: Matthew 5:14-16
Devotional: As followers of Christ, we are called to be the light of the world. Our good works are not for our own glory, but to point others to our Father in heaven. Think about the various spheres of influence in your life – your workplace, family, social circles. How brightly is your light shining in these areas? Are there ways you've been hiding your light out of fear or complacency? Ask God for the courage to let your light shine boldly today. Remember, even small acts of kindness and faith can have a profound impact on those around you.
Day 5: The Joy of Generosity
Reading: Acts 20:32-35
Devotional: Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." True generosity flows from a heart that has experienced God's abundant grace. Reflect on the ways God has been generous to you. How can you extend that generosity to others? Remember, generosity isn't just about money – it can involve our time, talents, and even our attitude towards others. Challenge yourself to practice "irrational generosity" today, going above and beyond in giving to someone else. As you do, meditate on God's extravagant love for you, demonstrated through Christ's ultimate sacrifice on the cross.
